Jet
Jet is a retriever cross and was born on August 12th 2005. Her KC name is Jet Set Go, she is currently grade 1, but she has only done one KC show in which she came 3rd in Graded 1-4 jumping, she wasn't run by me though, many thanks to Leanne to stepping in at the last minute!
Jet's real passion is flyball. She started flyball when I started at 'Owlers in February 2007, having done a small amount at our previous club. She had a lot of enthusiasm from the start and has made unbelievable progress through the year. She did her first starters tournament at Carlton Towers in April 07 and she was off. She then joined Doncaster's starters team at Sutton Fields, where they won. She also ran in a starter team called "Bits and Bobs" that ran an incredible 18.63s with Tess and Ozzie from Cleveland and Tullulah from Live Wires. She did her first open competition in May, running 4.7-4.8s times. Through a lot of boxwork and stamina training, she took it up a notch by running 4.4s at York racecourse. She qualified for the BFA Summer Championships (this year they've changed the rules, anyone can enter) and won her division by a mile, with a team of Jet, Kim, Mollie, Buffy, Jess and Meg. In November she left Barking and moved up to Barney 'Owlers for some division 1 racing. I can't wait to see if we can continue with some good 4.2-4.4 times into 2008!
Jet also does a bit of agility. She's fast, and has a very scopey jump. She works ahead of me brilliantly, but unfortunately we haven't had much access to contact equipment so we've fallen down a bit on contacts. This summer we will be retraining them, I don't think it will be that hard as we haven't competed much so she hasn't picked up that many bad habits. Her weaves are good too, she's a very powerful little dog, but I'm a terrible handler most of the time so I will sort that out this summer too. She's a pleasure to run though as she's always up for it and puts in 200%. She had some great top5 places in 2007, including a 4th at her first outdoor competition.
We dabbled in obedience, but we didn't have the time to continue it. I'd like to get into it again, perhaps in the future we will try and get going again. She qualified for Crufts at just over a year old and came 3rd at Crufts 2007.
If I wrote everything that I wanted to say about this little dog it would take me weeks, but she is very special to me in so many ways. She's the sweetest dog to have around the house, she's lovely to train and she means so much to me. She has the potential to do well in agility, and has more than exceeded my expectations in flyball. She is also very patient when I use her as a live specimen for locating surface landmarks....I can't wait until 4th year when she can come and live with me!
