We went to Yorkshire Bouncers EMDAC Agility show this weekend and I was dead pleased with my girls. Here’s a breakdown of what happened.
Introductory Jumping – Well, intro is about the equivalent of grade 1/2 combined as far as standard of dogs goes, there are some very good dogs in there even though it is the lowest level. You have to win two jumping and 2 agility to progress so it’s quite difficult to get out if you don’t do many of them. Anyway, this was the first class up and ran Jet first. I couldn’t have been more pleased with her, she blasted the course, did her weaves brilliantly and with me a good 10 feet away, she finished the course perfectly and a few people commented she was the fastest dog around the course. Then Poppy ran and she was on form, getting herself a fantastic clear, just her weaves were a bit slower than they could be. It turned out to be a very competitive class with lots of fast clears. Anyway, need not have worried as Jet came 4th out of 102 with a time just 0.1s off second and 0.4 off first. Poppy came 9th in the class with a time 0.6s slower than Jet and our good friends Leanne and Kim also came 7th in the class.
Introductory Agility – Jet ran first again, she was great and I was dead pleased. She did her contacts brilliantly and went into the weaves and did them pretty quick. The only problem was on a box we were meant to go straight on she went left as she was coming at an angle so just a baby mistake really. Poppy ran then and was tempted by the tunnel however did the rest of it brill! Kim then put in a lovely round and ended up 3rd out of 98! Well done Kimmy!
Introductory Power and Speed – Well, my aim in this class was to get to the speed bit seeing as Poppy’s contacts used to be terrible. I was dead pleased though, Jet did all her contacts perfectly and got onto the speed bit. It was a shame that she jumped very long and missed a very tight right turn after a tunnel. The rest of the course was great though! Poppy omg! First time ever we got onto the speed section. The target training must have worked as she got every contact and was released and did the speed bit. She was very hot though and I think she ended up 19th out of 102. hehe Leanne and Kim came 2nd with a great run! Well done girls!
Introductory Helter Skelter – Well, it was a very twisty helter skelter and I couldn’t remember where to go at all, that threw me a bit. I got us E’d unfortunately but Jet flew the last bit and I realised how much power those little legs have, must be all the flyball (and she didn’t knock a pole all day so it’s not bad that flyball lark!). Poppy ran with Leah from Dog Friendly, she was very hot but she fell for the same mistake Jet did and just missed out on that clear.
All in all, a very good day and I couldn’t be more pleased with Jet coming 4th in that class of over 100. Only her second outdoor full height show too. I can’t wait for next weekend, just Open Lucky Dip Pairs I’m worried about! I must also say well done to all the ‘Owlers who did their first agility shows, Emma and Bailey and Alice and Sammy who all got a clear at some time in the day! Well done guys.
